Seniors
Commencement for 2023-2024
Each senior needs to submit 8 pictures to the office to be used for a slideshow during the graduation ceremony. Pictures should be of the student at various ages. Pictures are due by May 1 and will be returned to the student before graduation.
Each senior who walks in the graduation ceremony will also be given a display table in the cafeteria. LCA will provide an 8×10 picture of the student’s school picture and cap and gown picture. The school will also provide an item for students to autograph. Seniors and their families are encouraged to bring other items to add to their senior tables, such as awards, pictures, or other keepsakes.
Remember, students must meet all requirements for graduation before they will receive their diplomas.
Graduation Requirements
Seniors must meet all of the graduation requirements in order to receive their high school diploma. Detailed information about required courses is available in the Student Handbook, but at minimum the student must meet the following requirements:
- Maintain a 2.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA
- Earn at least 24.5 credits in required courses
- Complete and provide scores for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests (only required for students on a college preparatory or general education track)
Testing Requirements (PSAT, SAT, and ACT)
PSAT: High school students take the PSAT during the fall of their junior year. The PSAT serves as an indicator of the student’s academic readiness for the SAT and other standardized testing. LCA requires it for all students regardless of their high school track. The PSAT provides recommendations for education paths based on the student’s interests and abilities and could provide students with scholarship opportunities. To better prepare our students for the pressures of testing, LCA also gives our sophomores the opportunity to take the PSAT as a practice test.
SAT: The SAT is administered by the College Board. SAT scores are often used by colleges and universities in determining whether or not to accept a student. SAT scores can also help determine scholarship eligibility. It is the responsibility of the student and his or her family to ensure that the student completes the SAT test prior to graduation. LCA recommends that seniors take the SAT in the fall or winter of their senior year. Juniors are also encourage to take the test during the spring of their 11th grade year.
ACT: The ACT is administered by ACT.org. ACT scores are often used by colleges and universities in determining whether or not to accept a student. ACT scores can also help determine scholarship eligibility. It is the responsibility of the student and his or her family to ensure that the student completes the ACT test prior to graduation. LCA recommends that seniors take the ACT in the fall or winter of their senior year. Juniors are also encourage to take the test during the spring of their 11th grade year.
Senior Pictures
Light Christian Academy contracts with Strawbridge Studios for senior formal and cap and gown pictures. These photos are then used by LCA in our school yearbook and during the senior ceremony. Families can choose to purchase copies of these pictures through multiple package options; other items may also be available through Strawbridge Studios. While all seniors are required to have their formal and cap and gown pictures taken through Strawbridge, each family also has the option of contracting with other photographers if your student would like casual or personalized shots for additional senior pictures.
Graduation Announcements & Senior Memorabilia
Several options for graduation announcements and senior memorabilia, including class rings, are available to LCA students through Jostens.com. (Juniors who plan to order senior items are encouraged to confirm their expected graduation date with the school office before ordering.) Another option to order Senior memorabilia for ladies is www.CustomizedGirl.com. Please note that any senior outwear such as hoodies that are ordered must have the LCA name on it in order to be approved uniform clothing. If you have any questions, please contact the school office before ordering.
