The Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program is a free educational, high quality learning opportunity available to all 4-year-old children in the State of Florida. The VPK program is designed to prepare 4-year-olds to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
The VPK program only has two eligibility requirements: · Child must live in Florida · Child must be 4-years-old on or before September 1 of the current year
Light Christian Academy’s VPK program is a school-year program. Students can attend Monday-Friday mornings from 8:30am until 11:45am at no charge through VPK funding (please note VPK funding covers tuition for a limited number of hours; there may be additional charges for field trips, necessary supplies, and VPK graduation). A full-day program, which includes morning care, an afternoon academic session, and aftercare, is available for a wrap-around fee of $75 per week, Students enrolled in the VPK with Wrap Around program can arrive as early as 7am and be picked up as late as 6pm.
Commonly Asked Questions Does VPK cover my child’s tuition? VPK funds a set number of educational hours; those hours may vary depending on whether your child is enrolled in a school year program or summer program. Like many VPK providers, Light Christian Academy charges a “wrap-around” fee for students who wish to stay at school for more hours than are allotted by VPK.
Does VPK cover lunches or snacks? A morning snack is included in your child's daily schedule and is provided by Light Christian Academy. If your child is enrolled in the full-day VPK with Wrap Around program, an afternoon snack will also be provided. Lunch is not included, and it is the responsibility of the family of any child enrolled in the full-day program to send a lunch with their student. For additional information regarding snacks and lunches, see the Preschool Program Handbook.
Does VPK cover Aftercare? Aftercare is not provided for VPK Only students. Students enrolled in VPK with Wrap Around may be picked up as late as 6pm with no additional charge. VPK Only students not picked up by 12pm will be billed a late pick up fee; see the Preschool Program Handbook for additional information.
Does my child have to wear a uniform? Preschool students, including VPK students, do NOT have to wear uniforms. However, there is still a dress code for all preschool students. Please see the Preschool Program Handbook for details.
How do I enroll my child in VPK? We encourage all prospective VPK families to tour our school campus and pick up an enrollment packet in person as the first step in the enrollment process! Before enrolling in Light Christian Academy's VPK program, all students must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility from the Florida Office of Early Learning, showing that the student meets the VPK program requirements. This certificate is available through a simple online application process at the following website: https://familyservices.floridaearlylearning.com/. (Additional information about Florida's VPK program and the application process is available from 4cflorida.org.) Once your child has a Certificate of Eligibility, prospective families should schedule an enrollment interview with LCA administration, complete all school enrollment forms in the enrollment packet (Registration Form, Influenza Form, Preschool Program Handbook Agreement, Permission & Medical Consent Form), and provide the school with copies of the child's birth certificate, immunization record, and school entry health exam.
